 | “Keeps me up to date with much of the “cutting edge” research available.”
With so many of Ohio’s grantmakers focusing their giving on local communities, the opportunity to connect in person and electronically with other funders is a key benefit of OGF membership. At OGF events, diverse groups of grantmakers learn from each other and establish local and extended networks, identifying others with similar interests and challenges. "By sharing my experience with others, I become a better grantmaker and a more valued resource to my company," said a corporate foundation member.
| | “Because we joined OGF and our board members and two executive directors have attended your seminars in the past 10 years we are a much stronger, more effective organization. . . .thanks!”
OGF build grantmakers’ skills by providing workshops and resources in 7 core competencies: communications, finance & investment, governance, grantmaking, management, public policy and resource development. We also offer Essential Skills and Strategies for New Grantmakers, a comprehensive orientation curriculum for new grantmakers that provides highly engaging learning activities and carefully selected content. And, staff and trustees of community and private foundations as well as corporate foundations and giving programs improve their skills on constituency-specific topics at stand-alone events and annual conference sessions.
| | “OGF connects me to resources ordinarily out of reach, enabling me to help my foundation become more accountable, professional and effective.”
OGF offers information on Ohio issues, trends and policies as well as how national trends and issues play out in the state. Electronic updates, quarterly newsletters, policy briefings and reports bring the latest news to members. "OGF’s communications keep me well-informed about news, research and issues that impact my grantmaking," stated one private foundation trustee. Online, the OGF website allows access to the best knowledge resources, such as sample documents, policies and forms.
| | “OGF lives up to its calling as a forum where the philanthropic sector engages in conversations of consequence with the business and government sectors.”
As the leading voice for organized philanthropy in the state, OGF informs external audiences such as media and policy makers about the role and power of Ohio grantmakers. OGF advocates on behalf of grantmakers to promote philanthropic giving and to maintain a supportive environment for philanthropy. Convening members around key issues is yet another way OGF fills its leadership role. "I rely on OGF to help elected officials and others understand the value and roles of philanthropy; I appreciate its convening role," explained a community foundation leader. |
